Unlike electro-mechanical relays (EMR), which use coils, magnetic fields, springs, and mechanical contacts to operate and switch a supply, the Solid State Relay Module (SSR) has no moving parts and instead performs input-to-output isolation and switching functions using the electrical and optical properties of solid-state semiconductors.
SSR Solid State Relay Module, like any other electromechanical relay, provides complete electrical isolation between its input and output contacts. Its output behaves similarly to a traditional electrical switch in that it has an extremely high, nearly infinite resistance when nonconducting (open) and remarkably low resistance when conducting (closed). By using an SCR, TRIAC, or switching transistor output instead of the traditional mechanical normally open (NO) contacts, a Solid State Relay Module can be built to switch both AC and DC currents.
